Find answers to common questions about Reiki sessions

If you’re new to Reiki, it’s completely normal to feel a mix of excitement and curiosity or even some apprehension. To help you make the most of your session, here are a few frequently asked questions.

  • Every Reiki experience is unique, and results can vary with each session. Reiki energy is intuitive and will naturally direct itself where it's needed in your body and energy field. Based on feedback from my clients, you may experience one or more of the following during or after your session:

    • Deep relaxation and inner calm

    • Sensations of energy movement in different areas of your body or energy field

    • Pain relief

    • Emotional release

    • A sense of alignment, grounding, and balance

    • Lightness in spirit and heart

    • Insight or enlightenment about a specific situation

    • We’ll begin by discussing the areas where you seek support—whether emotional, mental, spiritual, or physical.

    • During the session, you’ll receive a range of healing techniques, including a centering meditation, aura combing, chakra clearing, energy balancing, and Reiki hand placements.

    • You can enhance your session with a pendulum reading or oracle card reading for an additional charge.

    • Reflect on your goals: Think about what you hope to achieve from the appointment. Identify areas where you’re experiencing pain—whether emotional, mental, spiritual, or physical—and consider what you’re ready to release or address.

    • Prepare your body: To support relaxation, try to limit your caffeine intake on the day of your appointment and stay well-hydrated. Arriving freshly showered and in clean attire is also greatly appreciated, as it allows us to focus entirely on your energetic work in a comfortable, clean environment.

    • Maintain an open mind: Approaching the session with an open mind and a willingness to be fully engaged and immersed in the experience yields maximum benefit.

    • Ask questions: Your comfort, peace of mind and having an idea of what to expect are important. Let me know if you have questions about anything not covered on this page.

    • Be on time/arrive a little early: This will ensure that you will receive the maximum amount of time allotted for your session.

    • You will remain clothed for the session - any casual and comfortable clothing will do!

    • For health and safety reasons, clients are asked to arrive with good personal hygiene and in clean attire as it allows us to focus entirely on your energetic work in a comfortable, clean environment.

    • Your session is conducted in a shoe-free space.

  • Your comfort and boundaries are my priority. Reiki is equally effective whether administered through light touch or by hovering my hands just above the body. We will discuss your preference before we begin.

  • Reiki practitioners neither absorb your energy nor do you absorb theirs. Instead, they help release stagnant energy from you, allowing your own life force energy (ki or chi) to flow freely. This process can activate and enhance healing on emotional, mental, spiritual, and physical levels. Think of it like straightening a kinked garden hose to restore the flow of water except it's happening on an energetic level.

  • Reiki is not a quick fix; rather, it is a part of an ongoing healing journey.

It is recommend (particularly if this is your first visit) every two weeks between sessions to give yourself time to integrate and reflect on your experience. However, the frequency of your visits is entirely up to you and should be based on what feels right for your personal healing journey.

  • Reiki is not bound by any particular doctrine or belief system, unlike many religions that require adherence to specific teachings. Instead, Reiki is a simple yet powerful relaxation and healing practice. It does not require you to change or give up your religious beliefs. In fact, many people of faith who practice or receive Reiki find that it deepens their connection to God / Source / Higher Power.

  • Reiki services are intended to support relaxation and overall well-being by working on a person’s energetic level. They are not a substitute for medical or psychological diagnosis or treatment. Reiki practitioners do not diagnose conditions, prescribe medications, or interfere with the treatment plans of licensed healthcare professionals.

Reiki is a complementary practice and should be viewed as such. If you are experiencing any physical, mental, or emotional symptoms that require medical attention, it is strongly advised that you consult with a qualified healthcare provider as soon as you are able. Always seek the advice of your physician or other licensed health professional with any questions you may have regarding a medical condition.
